Why this matters now

For regional tax teams, the final months of 2026 are less about discovering new headline tax rates and more about execution: filing, registration, data ownership, remediation and systems readiness.

Five officially confirmed developments in Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia deserve priority because they either create a near-term deadline, require an operational decision now, or determine whether a business enters 2027 with unresolved compliance work.

This is a prioritisation note, not an exhaustive GCC compliance calendar. It focuses on developments already verified against official sources as of 6 September 2026.

1. UAE: close the 30 September corporate-tax cycle

The UAE Federal Tax Authority has reminded Taxable Persons whose financial year ended on 31 December 2025 that their Corporate Tax Returns and Corporate Tax due must be filed and paid before the end of September 2026.

The immediate action is straightforward: confirm return readiness, tax payment funding, approval ownership and EmaraTax submission responsibility. Businesses eligible for Small Business Relief should not treat relief as a filing exemption; the FTA has separately emphasised the need to submit the prescribed simplified return within the statutory timeframe.

For groups operating across several UAE entities, the risk is not only technical tax accuracy. It is also process failure in the final weeks before the deadline: incomplete data, unresolved adjustments, delayed approvals or payment mechanics.
