Updated 11 October: a historical deadline

The statutory nine-month filing and payment rule produced a 30 September 2026 deadline for taxable persons with a tax period ending 31 December 2025, subject to any specific applicable treatment. That date has passed.

This article now records the deadline as elapsed. The underlying rule has not been converted into a new October deadline or a general extension.

Confirm filing and payment separately

T&M analysis: retain the submitted return, acknowledgement, calculation and evidence of payment. A prepared computation is different from a completed filing, and a payment instruction is different from a settled payment.

Reconcile those records to the correct taxpayer and tax period. If a gap is found, establish what was actually submitted and paid before selecting a corrective route.

For an unresolved return

A business that has not completed its obligations should address the outstanding filing or payment promptly and check the current FTA process and applicable administrative-penalty rules. This update does not quote a penalty amount without verifying the rule for the specific breach.

A nil tax result does not by itself resolve whether a return was required. Identify the taxpayer's status and any applicable exception from the governing legislation.

For other financial year-ends

Apply the nine-month rule to the actual tax-period end rather than importing the calendar-year date. A specific official extension or treatment, where applicable, must be documented separately.
