What happened?
The OECD published version 2.0 of the GloBE Information Return XML Schema and its revised User Guide on 20 October 2026. It reflects the 2026 GIR revisions and technical improvements.
Key details
Version 1.0 continues to apply to GIR information exchanges through 15 June 2028. Version 2.0 applies from 25 June 2028, including exchanges of amendments and corrections. Domestic use depends on the relevant jurisdiction's law.
Business impact
T&M analysis: reporting teams should maintain a version register linking fiscal periods, return templates and transmission specifications. Ask software providers how they will handle historical corrections after the transition. Keep validation tests for both original returns and corrected data.
An international exchange timetable should not be substituted for a local filing deadline. Confirm the domestic submission channel and accepted format with each relevant authority before changing production systems.
What happens next?
This is a follow-up to T&M's September-package coverage, which recorded the revised schema as still under development: https://taxandmarkets.com/news/oecd-pillar-two-september-2026-gir-guidance. The new milestone is the schema's publication, not a new minimum-tax charge. News and analysis only; not tax, legal or investment advice.
